After your initial consultation, your dermal therapist will cleanse and prepare your skin for your skin-needling treatment. The Dermapen 4 is passed over your skin in sections, with the fine stainless steel sterile needles creating thousands of tiny microchannels. Your micro-needling facial will be finished within a few minutes and is generally well tolerated and not considered painful. Your skin may feel tight and warm immediately after the treatment. We do not use numbing cream, as it may interfere with the desired response in your skin.

Skin needling is a favourite treatment among clients due to the fantastic results and very little downtime associated with it. However, micro-needling is an intensive treatment and may cause some discomfort. Your skin may be sensitive for a few hours after your treatment, and you may be slightly red - the redness is similar to a mild sunburn and usually subsides within a few hours. During the skin healing process, you may experience minor itching, hives, flaking, and redness. An antihistamine tablet can be taken for hives or itching. (Check with your pharmacist if you are safe to do so.) In rare cases, some clients may experience petechiae which is a slight bruising of the skin but this usually subsides within a few days.If your symptoms persist please call us.

Due to the nature of skin needling, there are a number of aftercare steps we recommend you follow to ensure you receive the best results. Your skin needling aftercare recommendations include the following:
Use a clean pillowcase, face towels and makeup brushes to avoid spreading bacteria to your healing skin
Avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours post-treatment unless it is non-occlusive/comedogenic, mineral skin-loving makeup
Avoid exercising or excessive sweating for 24 hours
Do not have other clinical treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion or IPL on the treated area
Avoid sun exposure for two weeks, and always use SPF
Avoid using active products such as topical steroids, retinoids, AHA’s, BHAs, or any other exfoliating agents for 3 days to avoid any irritation, re-introducing them back into your skincare regime as tolerated
Use gentle cleansers and protective, nourishing moisturisers and serums such as Ultimate Recovery, Hydra B5, and Fast Skin Repair - apply as often as necessary to reduce inflammation, restore skin comfort and accelerate the healing process
To boost the results of your skin needling, we recommend combining your treatment with a light Enzyme facial and Healite light therapy 5–10 days post-treatment. These additional treatments will accelerate your skin’s repair and healing for exceptional results and glowing, fresh skin.
